Peter Chapman
Composer

It's no surprise Peter Chapman has one of the most impressive portfolios of any Canadian composer his age - his career started at 19, when he sold several short pieces to hit consumer TV show Street Cents. More recently, his work has appeared on Sesame Street segments around the world.

Now at 28 years old, Chapman is the lead composer for the Gemini Award-winning television show Durham County. His music has been featured in ads for Primus Mobility, M&Ms, Dodge, Petro Canada, Chlorox, Saturn and RBC, and his self-produced solo work has charted in the top 5 on several Canadian charts.

Chapman's course has been clear even before he bought his first 4-track recorder at age 17. He spent his teen years writing music for his surf band, the Shysters, and since then he's been playing, writing, recording and remixing some of Canada's most exciting artists (including the Meligrove Band, Woodhands, and The Bicycles).

While his success is largely due to his keen sense for style and catchy melodies, Chapman has also benefitted from two of the best mentors available. His studies under influential composers Tom Third (ReGensis, Durham County, Queer as Folk) and Rob Carli (Murdoch Mysteries, The Wild Roses) have proven instumental to his professional development and continue to guide his work.

Chapman spends most of his time in his studio surrounded by vintage synthesizers and samplers, which he combines with modern recording technology and production techniques to form his signature sound. Even when not working to a deadline, he can still often be found in his composing chair, putting together tracks for his electronic act, Peter Project.
