It's no surprise Peter Chapman has one of the most impressive portfolios of any Canadian composer his age - his career started at 19, when he sold several short pieces to hit consumer TV show Street Cents. More recently, his work has appeared on Sesame Street segments around the world.
Now at 29 years old, Chapman is the lead composer for the Gemini Award-winning television show Durham County. Recently he's written music for the critically acclaimed Playstaion 3 game Mod Nation Racers, and the retro kitch sci-fi game About a Blob as well as the music documentary series City Sonic, and kids show Nunbory.
His music has been featured in ads for Primus Mobility, M&Ms, Dodge, Petro Canada, Chlorox, Saturn, Black Diamond Cheese Strings and RBC, and his self-produced solo work has charted in the top 5 on several Canadian charts.
Chapman's course has been clear even before he bought his first 4-track recorder at age 17. He spent his teen years writing music for his surf band, the Shysters, and since then he's been playing, writing, recording and remixing some of Canada's most exciting artists (including the Meligrove Band, Woodhands, and The Bicycles).
Chapman spends most of his time in his studio surrounded by vintage synthesizers, guitars and samplers, which he combines with modern recording technology and production techniques to form his signature sound. Even when not working to a deadline, he can still often be found in his composing chair, putting together tracks for his electronic act, Peter Project.
